Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera died along with six other passengers in a private jet crash on Sunday, Reuters reports.
Investigators confirmed that the wreckage of the plane carrying Rivera, 42, and her team, was discovered south of the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, where Rivera's plane had departed from at 3:30 a.m. Sunday Dec. 9.
A spokesman for Mexico's civil aviation authority said there were no survivors at the crash site -- and the destruction is so complete that bodies could not yet be identified.
Rivera and her fellow passengers and crew were expected to land in the Mexican city of Toluca (near Mexico City) around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning; a search, complete with helicopters, was launched in the area early Sunday.
Born and raised in Long Beach, Calif. by Mexican immigrants, Rivera was in Monterrey for a concert; she's popular for her renditions of regional Mexican music known as nortena and banda.
