LONDON BASED MALAWIAN SINGER/SONGWRITER 'HAZEL MAK' RELEASES HER FIRST OFFICIAL MALAWIAN SINGLE 'UMBETA' OFF THE 'NYUMBA ON FIRE' EP

Coalition Music (UK) are pleased to announce the digital release of “Umbeta (Nda diki dikilira)” a song by Malawian recording artist Hazel Mak from her second studio EP, ‘Nyumba on fire (2013)’.  The visuals that accompany the single were directed and produced by the talented Joy Williams that also directed and produced Theo Thomsons ‘Solider’ video.

The colourful African printed dress worn by Hazel in the video was designed by Malawian fashion designer Lilly Alfonso and the jewelry and styling was provided by stylists at Kwanza PR (MW/UK).

"As every one knows I am very patriotic, I love all things Malawian and I am very excited about the recent developments in the creative arts and entertainment industry! Theres so much talent in Malawi and I look forward being part of the movement and making history."

The singer/ songwriter hailing from Malawi began her music career at the age of 11 performing for various events across the United Kingdom and Malawi with the likes of Tinie Tempa, The Noisettes, Oliver Mtukudzi, Tay Grin, Lucius Band, Desert Eagle and Theo Thomson to name a few.

The song is an upbeat Afro-R & B song with Malawian melodic influence much like her unofficial first release ‘Ndimakukonda” the new single was produced by prominent producer Majumi ‘Maj Beats’ Gondwe and written by Hazel Mak.

The definition of Umbeta in Chichewa varies none the less in the context of the song the lyrics refer a unmarried woman that liberates herself emotionally and physically from partner that is unwilling to commit to taking their relationship to the next level.   “As a young woman Umbeta is a symbol of Woman-hood, Empowerment and Liberation, I believe many women can relate to the song….the truth is relationships come and go and there's absolutely no reason to cling on to something that does nothing but hurt you. When the time is right the right person will come along; there is strength in realising your worth ladies… until then you’re a ‘mbeta’ until he puts a ring on it” Hazel Mak 2013.

Keep the flag flying Hazel Mak and keep doing Malawi and Africa proud.  We got your back!
