LIL WAYNE RELEASED FROM LOS ANGELES HOSPITAL

Rapper Lil Wayne has been released from a Los Angeles hospital after a mystery health scare and was returning home, the president of the singer's record label said.  "Thanks to Cedar Sinai (sic) for everything!!! (Lil Wayne) has been officially released and is headed home .... God is great," Mack Maine, a rapper and president of Young Money Entertainment, which Lil Wayne owns, said on Twitter late on Monday.

Celebrity website TMZ.com reported that Lil Wayne, 30, was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on March 13 after suffering a series of seizures and said that the "Lollipop" rapper spent several days in intensive care.  Lil Wayne's spokeswoman said last week that the rapper was "recovering" but declined to say what he was suffering from.  The rapper's publicist and record label did not return requests for comment on his condition on Tuesday.

Fellow rappers, including Nicki Minaj and Drake, were photographed entering the hospital over the weekend. Minaj was carrying a set of balloons into the hospital.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., has suffered several unexplained seizures in the past few months, including two in January while on a plane flight.  The New Orleans rapper began his professional career at the age of nine, when he became the youngest artist to be signed by Cash Money Records.

Lil Wayne has released nine studio albums over a two-decade career and has become one of the biggest names in rap music.

PATERNITY SUIT DROPPED AGAINST BASKETBALL LEGEND MICHAEL JORDAN

An Atlanta woman who says basketball legend Michael Jordan is the father of her 16-year-old son has dropped her paternity suit against him.

Pamela Smith, 48, filed a paternity suit against Jordan last month seeking child support. Jordan denies he is the father of the child and has also filed a counterclaim seeking sanctions against Smith for making false claims. Smith acknowledged in a previous divorce proceeding that her now ex-husband is the father of the child, according to Jordan's lawyers.

The case has not been settled, Smith's attorney, Randy Kessler, told Reuters on Monday. His client has voluntarily dismissed the case "without prejudice" which means she can re-file it later if she chooses, Kessler added.  "She began this case without an attorney and did her best to file what she believed to be a legally appropriate case," Kessler said.  "She then hired our firm just before the first court appearance. Ms. Smith has relied on our advice and determined that dismissal at this time, without prejudice, is in her son's best interests," he said.

In a statement, Estee Portnoy, Michael Jordan's spokeswoman, confirmed that the suit has been dropped and said, "There has been no settlement or money paid to Ms. Smith."  Jordan, 50, is widely hailed as the best basketball player of all time and was a member of six NBA championship teams with the Chicago Bulls. He is majority owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats team.  John Mayoue, Jordan's attorney, did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment on the case.

Last week, Smith asked a Georgia court to force Jordan to submit to a DNA test to prove or disprove whether he is the father.  "My son has the right to know who his father is," Smith told reporters after the hearing. "He has had an issue with it over the years."

SIX MONTH OLD BABY DIES AFTER BEING SHOT 5 TIMES AS DAD CHANGES DIAPER

6-month-old baby has died after she was shot Monday while her father was changing her diaper.  Johnylah Watkins passed away Tuesday morning, Chicago Pastor Corey Brooks confirmed.

Johnylah's father, identified by family members as 28-year-old Jonathan Watkins, remains in critical condition. He was bent over the girl to change her on the front passenger seat of the family van when the shooting occurred, police said.  Johnylah and Watkins were both taken to hospitals in critical condition after shots rang out at about 12:45 p.m. Monday in the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue. Watkins was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Johnylah was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital.

"The city of Chicago should be outraged that a 6-month-old baby could be shot and killed in our city," Brooks said. "It's horrific."   Brooks said the baby's mother is distraught and in a lot of pain. "We're going to find who did this and make sure they are brought to justice," he said. "We're not going to be afraid. We're going to take back our neighborhood."

Police were still looking for the shooter, who ran up behind Watkins, fired, and then took off to a nearby blue conversion van, said department spokesman John Mirabelli. Bullets struck Jonathan Watkins in the buttocks and on the right side of his face. His young daughter was hit five times: in the thigh, shoulder, lung, liver and bowels, the family later said.

Witnesses reported hearing at least 10 gunshots.   "I just heard like a lot of shots and skid marks, so that's when I ran to the corner," said Patricia McGowan, who lives near the scene but was at a salon at the time gunfire rang out. "There is always gunshots and crime in the neighborhood, always drug activity in the neighborhood. ... It's heartbreaking. We're looking for a place to move out immediately because that could have easily been me coming from the bus."

Police said Watkins has known gang affiliations.   Mary Young said her daughter, Judy Young, and Watkins were just recently married. Judy was grazed by a bullet in the knee about seven months ago, she said, while Johnylah was still in the womb.   Pastor Brooks has offered a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the little girl's shooter. Brooks gained notoriety last year for camping out on the roof of a south side motel in an effort to raise money for a community center.

Earlier in the day, Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy touted progress in his department's efforts against crime. As of Monday, shooting incidents in the city are down 19 percent year-over-year, he said.

SIXTY-FIVE TONNES OF DEAD FISH IN OLYMPIC LAKE

A huge clean-up has been launched in the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon after 65 tonnes of dead fish filled the waters which are set to play host to the 2016 Olympic rowing events.

The lagoon, authorities say, became deoxygenated after heavy storms, which washed ‘a large amount of organic matter’ into the lake.  The clean-up is still underway, and is not the first time that the lagoon has suffered such misfortune.

In 2009 an estimated 100 tonnes of dead fish, predominantly shad, had to be removed from the waters after a similar incident.  As you can see from the picture above, taken during the Pan-Am Games in 2007, the lagoon hosted rowing successfully.

But you can see the horrific pictures of the Lake as it is this week below:

Twin sisters who claim to be Amsterdam’s oldest prostitutes have retired after more than 50 years each in the business.

Louise and Martine Fokkens, 70, have decided they are too old after bedding a total of 355,000 men.  Mum-of-four Louise, says arthritis now makes some sexual positions “too painful”.
And Martine, who has three children, admits she finds it hard to attract punters – though one elderly man still has his weekly sadomasochism session.  “I couldn’t give him up,” she says. “It’s lie going to church on a Sunday for him.”

The pair were the subject last year of a documentary Meet The Fokkens and they have written a book called The Ladies Of Amsterdam.

Both, who dress in identical red clothes, became prostitutes before the age of 20 to survive financially after escaping violent relationships.  They now look back on the “golden years” before Holland legalised prostitution in 2000.

Louise said: “It is very different now. We used to sit in the windows with clothes on. Today they are totally naked.”

Martine added: “Girls are working from the internet and from home – you are less likely to be spotted by the taxman.”

ARGENTINIAN CARDINAL JORGE MARIO BERGOGLIO OF ARGENTINA BECOMES POPE FRANCIS

Newly elected Pope Francis, formerly Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina

Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio has been elected as the new pope.  He appeared on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica to cheers from tens of thousands of the faithful, after stopping to pray in the Pauline Chapel for a few minutes.

White smoke rising from the conclave at the Vatican signalled a decision had been reached on the new head of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.  His appearance came after French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, the protodeacon, announces "Habemus Papum" - "We have a pope" - and gave the name of the new pontiff in Latin.  Those gathered outside the Vatican broke into cheers as the white smoke indicated the new pontiff had obtained the required two thirds majority in the fifth round of voting by 115 cardinals over two days.

The quick election was a surprise given there was no clear front-runner going into the vote - and the upheaval in the church prompted by Pope Benedict XVI's resignation last month.  His departure threw the church into turmoil and exposed deep divisions among cardinals tasked with finding a manager to clean up a Vatican bureaucracy embroiled in recent scandals.

The pope's Twitter account, whose profile was changed to read 'Sede Vacante' when Benedict stepped down, has now been switched back to 'Pontifex'.

CARDINALS HEAD TO THE VATICAN FOR A CONCLAVE TO ELECT A NEW POPE FOR THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

Roman Catholic cardinals gather under the gaze of Michelangelo's "Last Judgment" on Tuesday to elect a new pope to tackle the daunting problems facing the 1.2-billion-member Church at one of the most difficult periods in its history.

The 115 cardinal electors aged under 80 began moving early on Tuesday into the Vatican's Santa Martha hotel, where they will live during the conclave, which starts in the afternoon.  Under an early morning drizzle and to the applause and waves of seminarians, eight of the 11 American cardinal electors left the North American College seminary in a minibus bound for the Vatican to join the other three who already live in Rome.

All cardinals, including those over 80, were due to celebrate a morning Mass in St. Peter's Basilica to pray for guidance in their choice of the man to succeed Pope Benedict, who abdicated last month saying he was not strong enough to confront the Church's woes.

The cardinal electors have drawn lots for the rooms and suites in Santa Martha, a modern residence which is being used only for the second time to house conclave participants. The first time was in 2005.  The secret conclave, steeped in ritual and prayer, could carry on for several days, with no clear favorite in sight.  In a process dating back to medieval times, the "Princes of the Church" from 48 countries will shut themselves in the Vatican's frescoed Sistine Chapel.

They will emerge from their seclusion only when they have chosen the 266th pontiff in the 2,000-year-history of the Church, which is beset by sex abuse scandals, bureaucratic infighting, financial difficulties and the rise of secularism.  "We are ready to enter the conclave and it will be longer than the last one," South African Cardinal Wilfrid Fox Napier told reporters on Monday, referring to the 2005 election of Benedict, that was wrapped up in 24 hours after four ballots.  "It will last a few days. Maybe four or five," he predicted.  The average length of the last nine conclaves was just over three days and none went on for more than five days.

Vatican insiders say Italy's Angelo Scola and Brazil's Odilo Scherer have emerged as the men to beat. The former would bring the papacy back to Italy for the first time in 35 years, while the latter would be the first non-European pope in 1,300 years.  However, a host of other candidates from numerous nations have also been mentioned, including U.S. cardinals Timothy Dolan and Sean O'Malley, Canada's Marc Ouellet and Argentina's Leonardo Sandri.

CONSERVATISM AHEAD
All the red-hatted prelates who will be secluded in the Sistine Chapel were appointed by either Benedict or his predecessor John Paul, and the next pontiff will almost certainly pursue their fierce defense of traditional moral teachings.

But Benedict and John Paul were criticized for failing to reform Vatican bureaucracy, battered by allegations of intrigue and incompetence, and some churchmen believe the next pope must be a good manager or put a good management team in place. Vatican insiders say Scola, who has managed two big Italian dioceses, might be best placed to understand the Byzantine politics of the Vatican administration - of which he is not a part - and therefore be able to introduce swift reform.

The Curia faction, of cardinals working inside the Vatican bureaucracy, is said by the same insiders to back Scherer who worked in the Vatican's Congregation for Bishops for seven years before later leading Brazil's Sao Paolo diocese - the largest diocese in the biggest Catholic country.  With only 24 percent of Catholics living in Europe, pressure is growing within the Church to choose a pontiff from elsewhere in the world who would bring a different perspective.

Latin American cardinals might worry more about poverty and the rise of evangelical churches than questions of materialism and sexual abuse that dominate in the West, while the growth of Islam is a major concern for the Church in Africa and Asia.  The cardinals are expected to hold their first vote late on Tuesday afternoon - which is almost certain to be inconclusive - before retiring to the Vatican hotel for the night.  They hold four ballots a day from Wednesday until one man has won a two-thirds majority - or 77 votes. Black smoke from a makeshift chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel will signify no-one has been elected while white smoke and the pealing of St. Peter's bells will announce the arrival of a new pontiff.

As in medieval times, the cardinals will be banned from communicating with the outside world. The Vatican has also taken high-tech measures to ensure secrecy in the 21st century, including electronic jamming devices to prevent eavesdropping.

JUSTIN BIEBER COLLAPSES DURING LONDON GIG

Justin Bieber tweets picture from his hospital bed following breathing difficulties on stage last night

Last night Justin Bieber was admitted to hospital after leaving the stage during his latest O2 arena concert when he began to suffer from breathing difficulties.

The 19-year-old singer was driven straight to hospital after finishing the gig and has now posted a picture of himself in a ward bed- telling fans that his doctors were trying to ‘figure out’ exactly what happened.  He wrote on Twitter: "thanks for everyone pulling me thru tonight. best fans in the world. figuring out what happened. thanks for the love.(sic)"

Justin left fans shocked last night when he stopped performing midway through a song, holding his head in his hands and bending over in pain.  On leaving the stage, Justin’s manager Scooter Braun informed fans at the gig that the heartthrob was currently being looked over by the venue’s medical team due to shortness of breath.

Justin also uploaded a picture of the hospital hall. Copyright [Instagram/Justin Bieber]
He said:"Justin got very light of breath, the whole show he's been complaining.  "He's backstage with the EMTs (emergency medical team) and the doctor."   However, Justin insisted on returning to the stage twenty minutes later to finish off his last four songs rather than going immediately to the hospital.

Scooter continued: "They're telling him they want him to go and see somebody and find out what's going on with his lungs, he's just told me that in five minutes, if it's OK with you guys, he's going to come out and finish the show.
Justin caused controversy earlier this week after arriving two hours late. Copyright [Wenn]

"So he might not be jumping around as much and everything else, you guys need to be patient with us, we're not trying to be disrespectful, we're not trying to get you guys home late, we're truly trying to put on a show for the people who love him."

After news of the star’s mystery illness broke, the trend #justintakeabreak started to circulate on Twitter.  Justin previously angered fans earlier this week after turning up on stage two hours later than billed, forcing many to leave the concert as he took to the stage.

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW 2013: HOW HYPERCARS STOLE THIS YEAR'S SHOW

Ferrari's 'LaFerrari', the McLaren P1 and the deliberately outrageous Lamborghini Veneno were the undoubted stars at Geneva - the one motor show which makes even bankers feel poorly paid.

You wait years for a hypercar to come along and then suddenly three turn up at once - from Ferrari, McLaren and Lamborghini.

All include ballistic power levels and top speeds that would see you locked up if even approached them, but all appeal to the car-mad child in many of us.

The fact the daftly named Ferrari 'LaFerrari', the more logical McLaren P1 and the deliberately outrageous Lamborghini Veneno – which meant poison in my Spanish dictionary last time I looked – aren’t as fast as Bugatti’s Veyron didn’t seem to matter as the stands disappeared under swathes of humanity.

Technically speaking the Ferrari is a hybrid, in that it has both petrol and electric power, but the electric motor is there to boost performance and all 499 cars to be built have already all been sold, so there’s no point mugging your bank manager for a million quid.

The McLaren is slightly more restrained, with more fluid lines and an exquisite finish, though the obvious mechanics of that rear wing jar in comparison.

Ferrari's 'LaFerrari', which does 0-62mph in under three seconds (Russell Bray)

The Lamborghini Veneno, on the market (one of three) for a cool £2.6m (Russell Bray)

McLaren say they only plan to make 375 of their P1s (Russell Bray)

McLaren says it will make only 375 P1s, but has double that number of people wanting to buy.

"You really need to control supply. If it doesn't have a degree of exclusivity you can undermine the whole cache,” said Mike Flewitt, chief operating officer of McLaren Automotive.

The Lambo? Well, how the edges on the car pass pedestrian safety regulations rather than slice them into pieces is beyond me, but only three of the £2.6 million cars are being made, and the owners might have their own race track which would suit the car better than the road.

It’s worth remembering fantasy cars like this are capable of such brutal acceleration (zero to 188mph in around 15 seconds) that unless you are as fit as Triathlon specialist Jenson Button, the performance is not just frightening but physically unpleasant.

If you have a soft spot for hand-built cars of character, and around £100,000 in your piggy bank, the Spyker Venator was the surprise of the show for me.

It wasn’t as timeless as Alfa Romeo’s 4C, now production form, but I would be prepared to bet there will be less of these outside swanky hotels in Europe over the next five years that LaFerraris.

Geneva is well known for its special edition cars with stratospheric price tags (Russell Bray)

Rolls-Royce’s owners, with their eyes on Volkswagen-owned Bentley, seem to have woken up to the performance possibilities for the brand and are showing the 624bhp Wraith, but it's clear the styling needs works.

Volkswagen’s XL1 is no fireball, but could be the world’s most economical ‘car.’ The tandem two-seater betters 300mpg in official laboratory tests and should manage 127mpg in the real world with its combination of diesel and electric power.

From the wacky side of the road was the Toyota i-Road. Toyota suggests the two-seater, three-wheeled electric city car, which leans like a motorcycle in bends, is the future of urban motoring; which could be true if they decide to put the Renault Twizy rivaling vehicle into production.

Best concept car I thought, even though it would need some changes for practicality, was ItalDesign’s Parcour, but its slightly odd dimensions are because under its skin it uses the mechanicals of the Lamborghini Gallardo, a car finally due for replacement next year.

It seems you can’t escape supercars at Geneva, even if you are trying to.

But further afield than the Swiss city, sales of cars in Europe are continuing to plunge, down 3.3 million in 12 months, though the UK continues to buck the trend.

“I can't envisage Europe hitting 17 million cars a year within the next five or six years. After that, who knows?” one analyst told me.
