When it comes to trying to keep up a long-distance relationship alive most couples have limited options – write each other nice letters, maybe purchase a webcam for Skype, and if you're lucky, have the odd holiday together.
However, Lewis Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger are not 'most people' and the Formula One driver has ensured he can regularly rendezvous with his famous pop singer girlfriend by splashing out £20m on a private jet. Hamilton is flush with cash with after moving from McLaren to Mercedes at the end of last season on a three-year-contract estimated to be worth £60m. The Stevenage-born driver has also managed to hang on to most of his riches by living in tax exile for a number of years. He first lived in Switzerland but then moved to Monaco in 2011 because he felt that Switzerland was 'too boring.'
The 2012 Sunday Times rich list estimated the 28-year-old's net worth at £55m. Now he is really living the 'jet-set' lifestyle by splashing out £20 million on a personalised Bombardier CL-600 according to the Daily Mail. The paper reports that the jet is fitted with pull-out bed, several plasma television screens and a bar and that Hamilton will use it principally to 'ease the strain' of his relationship with Scherzinger.
According to the Mail, 34-year-old Scherzinger used a most of her £750,000 fee for being a judge on the X-Factor last year to charter private jets to visit Hamilton. Hamilton again managed to avoid a hefty tax bill on the plane by having it delivered to Isle of Man Airport last month. The registration on the plan is "G-LCDH" which stands for Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton. Hamilton tweeted a picture of himself reclining on a chair of what appears to be the jet last month.
Hamilton met Pussycats Doll singer Scherzinger in November 2007 and the pair started dating the following May although they did split briefly in 2011. Hamilton has won 21 F1 races since making his debut in 2007 and won the world championship in 2008. He finished fourth in the 2012 Driver Standings after a mixed season.
